#22: August 11th, 2010 - Cleaning the Interior and Trunk Floor. Getting ready for Primer...In order to get the floor ready for primer, I had several task to accomplish.
First was to remove all the factory sound deadener that was on the floor, transmission tunnel, firewall, and trunk.
Second was to clean off the residue from the sound deadener.
Third is remove any surface rust and grind down any spot welds.
Finally, forth is to remove the black paint on the drivers-side rear floor.
After all that is done, the primer can go down.

Removing sound deadener is one of my least favorite jobs. You use a torch or heat gun to heat up the sound deadener, then when it gets to just the right temperature, you scrape it off. Too hot and you have a gooey mess. To cold and it won't come up easily. After the scraping, I used a scuff pad, paper towels and paint thinner to remove the residue.

I started spraying the primer before I removed the black paint, as I knew that would be a chore. So, after spraying primer on the other sections, I turned my attention to the black section of the floor. There were several layers of paint and surface rust that needed to be remove before the job was complete.
