#53: October 2nd, 2011 - Installing the K-Member, Rear Suspension and Bumper Supports...
First
on the agenda is putting some of the larger parts I just painted back
on the car. The K-member and bumper supports are the first to get
bolted on. This will also free up some work space in the garage. The front bumper support went on with new stainless hardware, as I had to weld-in new threaded inserts into the mounts, as I covered earlier. The rear used the existing hardware and brackets. It took a little more work to get all the holes lined-up and tightened-down.
I
used my transmission jack and a small piece of plywood to position the
K-member and bolt it up to the front frame rails. All the fasteners
were bead-blasted and painted before installation.
Next the rear axle and suspension were installed. I had prepped the rear axle and control arms
in earlier journals and now added some used 1998 Cobra springs
& Tokico HP Shocks, and new factory quad-shocks & spring
isolators to complete the parts needed for installation.
